We are now closing in on the most exciting period in the basketball season. There are only 10 days left in the regular season and in these 10 days will be decided all the seedings and all the play-off round 1 games. As I said, there are 10 games left in the regular season, but there are 6 weeks left in the play-off season which is, of course, the most exciting time in the basketball season, and what each team has been working towards throughout the past few months.
I would say personally, that there are really 3 teams in contention for the championship. They are the Los Angeles Lakers, Cleveland, and the Orlando Magic. It is very hard to discriminate between these 3 teams and each of these 3 teams has strong points and deficiencies which match up with the other 2 teams. There are all told 16 teams in the play-offs, but in my estimation, there are really only 3 with a chance. And those are the ones I listed.
Some people don't even watch the regular season and just walk the play-off games, as the level of competition is so much greater and the general level of play is so much higher that there is an unbelievable difference between the regular season and the play-off season. Football is over until next September, I don't follow baseball, so that leaves basketball for the next 2 1/2 months or so.
Injuries play the most important part in whether a team advances in the play-offs and how far they advance as the elimination of just one player can make all the difference in that team's chances for that year.
The team of those 3 I listed, without incurring any major injuries, has a tremendous advantage in the play-offs. The same applies to football and baseball to a certain extent. But there are 9 players in baseball and only 5 in basketball, so each one is very crucial to the team's success in the play-offs. Just one player going down can mean the end of a team's chances. We will analyze these teams on a weekly basis and enjoy the most interesting and strategic part of basketball during the last 6 weeks of the play-offs.
There is no factor that even comes close to the injury factor regarding a team's chances in the play-offs.
There are a lot of owners who spend an outrageous sum of money to get their team to win the championship, but strangely enough, spending an outrageous sum of money does not guarantee winning the championship.
During the last 10 years, the Los Angeles Lakers and the San Antonio Spurs have won 8 of the last 10 championships. So, if there is a long shot in this year's race, it would have to be San Antonio as it is the only one missing from the 8 dominant teams of the last 10 years.
Feel free to discuss bellow.
